Green Fashion
I decided to check out the Holiday Fair after parting ways with my co-worker at Grand Central Station last night. This annual fair features everything from stocking stuffers to big-ticket treasures from more than 70 handpicked vendors. The GCS Holiday Fair is one of the five NYC holiday fairs I know about. The other four are at: Union Square Park, Bryant Park, Columbus Circle & St. Bartholemew’s Park.
After wandering through the rows of booths, all featuring unique, haven’t-been-seen-before (by me) items – many of them hand made, I came across Engage Green’s booth. The vendor, Saeed Pourkay, was telling a group of shoppers how all the items on the table were designed by his wife, Leonor Mendoza. He had in his hand a plastic water bottle and was telling us that many of the items were made from recycled plastic such as the plastic bottle. Other materials used in Engage Green’s product lines are: Woven recycled paper, organic hemp, organic cotton, and cork leather. Bags & tray mats made from paper & recycled water bottles?? I was intriqued.
After loitering at the booth for probably a good 10 minutes and fingering many of the items on display, I’d narrowed down my favorites. I was particularly keen on the Brown/Pink Satchel from their Woven Collection (love it!) and the green cosmetic purse from their Spanish Mosaic Collection. With prices under $50, I was already checking off my holiday gift list.
The GCS Holiday Fair lasts through December 29 this year and I will be heading back there tomorrow to pick up the satchel plus a few other items. It’s a good thing (or maybe not) I work so close to GCS!!
