New England Weekend
I was up in the Boston area this past weekend visiting friends. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been up to Boston to see my friends and we had a wonderful time catching up. Aside from visiting with my friends, I also got a chance to visit a few surrounding towns.
Rockport: A quaint little seaside village on Cape Ann that’s about 30 minutes from where my friend Amy lives (Malden, MA). Aside from the spectacular views, delicious seafood, charming inns & B&B’s and beautiful scenery, Rockport is a shopper’s paradise with more than 150 shops and art galleries locacated within short walking distance.
Gloucester: a Cape Ann community neighboring Rockport. Located 30 miles north of Boston, Gloucester is known as America’s oldest seaport. Its scenic beauty, active fishing industry, and renowned arts community have attracted and inspired painters. We drove through the town and I was impressed by the beautiful beaches and large houses. That George Clooney movie “The Perfect Storm” was filmed there! If you will also recall, Gloucester is also infamous for the “pregnancy pact” where pregnancies occurred among 17 female students in Gloucester High School. To quote my friend Amy: “I survived Gloucester without getting pregnant”. Ha
Salem: infamous for the Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692. Today’s Salem is vibrant and rich with historic architecture, maritime & literary history, ecletic shops and more. After a delicious lunch at Finz Seafood and Grill restaurant by the waterfront, Amy and I decided to get a tarot card reading. Alas, getting a tarot card reading wasn’t in our cards as the one tarot reader we tried were all booked up for the day! Go figure.
